DIRECTING AT THE SCOTT STUDIO

Learn to think like a Director

For directors, actors, teachers, and theatre makers interested in exploring storytelling from a different perspective, The Scott Studio offers practical directing training rooted in curiosity, craft, and connection.

"Our first class was unexpected. Fun. Enlightening. Looking forward to more."

-- Gerri S. Directing for the Stage

The director’s job is not to have the answers.
The director’s job is to ask the questions that help the story reveal itself.

A director’s vision isn’t something you arrive with. It’s something you learn to form.

This lab explores the director’s process — from the first encounter with a script to the choices, conversations, and discoveries that shape a production.

Together, we’ll investigate story, character, relationships, collaboration, and the questions that help transform words on a page into a shared theatrical experience.

Directing is not about having all the answers.

It’s about learning how to listen, how to ask better questions, and how to create the conditions where discovery can happen.

Whether you’re preparing to direct your first production, looking to deepen your craft, or simply curious about seeing theatre from a different perspective, this lab offers the opportunity to explore how your own vision begins to take shape.
